Autumn Persimmon Smoothie + A Beaming Giveaway!

I’ve never been a huge fan of medicine. As a kid I would run out of the house just at the sight of the bright pink syrupy liquid that was going to rid me of my cold. I’ve carried this mentality into adulthood, often preferring drinking orange juice when I needed more Vitamin C, drinking ginger-honey tea when I feel cold coming, or just eating straight ginger in dire situations.

The thing about food is, well, it’s incredibly healing. Ask anyone who practices Eastern medicine – fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and herbs all have amazing healing properties.

When I first came across Beaming, the huge sign in the shop that read “Let food by thy medicine” is what really caught my eye. I love that with a little bit of planning and care we can take care of ourselves.

In celebration of the fall equinox, a drop in temperature and the holiday season, I teamed up with Beaming to showcase their exclusive fall menu and let you all get in on some of the Beaming love.

When I cozied up to the bar in Beaming, I was given a wide array of goodies to taste. First up? Their fall Persimmon smoothie. Filled with house-made sprouted almond milk, persimmons and maca, a root that balances hormones and boosts libido, I knew I was in for a treat. This smoothie was my favorite of all the fall menu items – it tasted so rich and warm. The fact that it was bright orange was just the goji berry on top.


I also got to taste the Buddah Bowl with a zingy carrot-ginger soup, and to finish it off the pumpkin chia mousse cake. If you’re feeling a little sluggish after all that Thanksgiving grub, I would definitely suggest a visit to Beaming to re-energize with one of their many smoothies or juices.

Fall Persimmon Smoothie

  • 1 cup sprouted almond milk
  • 1 Tbsp maca powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1 pitted date
  • ¼ cup goji berries
  • ½ cup frozen persimmon
  • 1 Tbsp coconut flakes
  • 1 tsp Beaming protein powder

Combine all ingredients in your blender and it should be ready to serve! If your smoothie is a bit thick, you can always add more almond milk or water to thin it out – enjoy!

    I like to re-energize while I’m at the office by closing all of my electronics and going on a brisk walk around the block. Doesn’t hurt to have a smoothie in hand as well. Love the blog!

    A walk in the crisp Autumn air crunching over the fallen leaves is energizing! Unfortunately, the crisp air and fallen leaves are a little harder to come by in San Diego. Smoothies provide a great pick-me-up. A pumpkin or persimmon smoothie sprinkled with cinnamon sounds like it could really bring taste of Fall!

    The ultimate way to re-energize after a long hike or run or spout of monotony is to indulge in the current season’s freshest fruit option. Nothing beats that refreshing first bite into a ripe piece of fruit. Typically, I will also use seasonal fruits to prepare smoothies, and one of my favorites is a honeydew kale (or spinach) smoothie.

    1c honeydew
    1c greens (I typically use kale or spinach)
    1 banana
    1/2c plain organic kefir
    Blend all the ingredients together, and then blend in a cup of ice.

    One of my favorite smoothies to make in the fall is a pumpkin pie smoothie: Frozen bananas, pumpkin puree, almond butter or tahini, dates, pumpkin pie spice, a little apple or apple butter – a plant based protein powder and a whir in the vitamix!

    My FAVORITE smoothie to make at home is super filling, nutritious, and gritty with the added oatmeal :)

    1 banana
    Handful of spinach
    2 dates
    Almond milk and some ice cubes!
    1 tsp maca powder
    Tiny spoonful of almond butter
    About 1/4-1/3 cup of oatmeal!

    My favorite way to re-energize is by taking a kickboxing class at my gym. It’s very high energy and I always burn a ton of calories and clear more than 3.5 miles (per my FitBit!)

    Half of an avocado
    Frozen organic berries
    Frozen banana
    Coconut water or water
    Homemade almond butter
    Handful of kale and or spinach
    Beaming protein powder
    Bee pollen
    Flax seeds

    I love any morning smoothie with banana, almond milk, kale, and whichever fruit fits the season. Ginger is definitely the zing to get any smoothie into an energizing cup of awesome.
